OUR HISTORY

In 2013, Wyllard Hartley was hired to build a community of homes outside of Fort Worth, TX. However, as a passionate advocate of the tiny house movement, he convinced the landowner to let him build a tiny house village instead. This became the very first exclusively tiny house village in the Fort Worth area, and is still in operation today.

Along the way, Wyllard Hartley and his wife, Odessa, lived in various types of tiny homes on their

journey towards creating The Hideaway Tiny House Village. It all started when they lived in an Airstream in the mountains of Southern California, where they fell in love with the freedom and simplicity of a minimalist lifestyle.

From there, they lived in a travel trailer, a motorhome, a bus conversion, a tiny house on wheels and even a tiny house on a foundation. Throughout their journey, they have refined their understanding of sustainable living and the benefits of living with less. With their passion and experience, they are creating a community where others can experience the same joy and freedom that inspired them to begin their tiny house journey.

Following the success of his first Tiny House Village, Wyllard began saving to buy his own land. In 2018, Odessa and Wyllard purchased a property on the outskirts of Kansas City – Wyllard’s hometown. The property had previously been a scrapyard filled with old car parts, tires, and scrap metal.

Undeterred by the state of the property, Wyllard saw its potential and bought the property on a

handshake. In June of 2019, Wyllard and his team broke ground on The Hideaway - South KC in hopes of transforming a literal junk yard into a regenerative village.

By the end of summer 2019, the primary construction of the first phase of The Hideaway was complete, featuring eight tiny house lots for rent, a community garden, a dog park, and a laundry room. It’s the only community in the south Kansas City area of it’s kind.

THE HIDEAWAY TODAY

The Hideaway now offers sustainable living options to those seeking a more minimalistic lifestyle, and it serves as a testament to Wyllard’s perseverance in bringing his vision to life.

As The Hideaway community continues to thrive, Wyllard and his team have expanded. In December 2022, they welcomed Jeana Walz as the new onsite manager, bringing her experience and skills to enhance the community’s operations and resident experience.

As onsite manager, Jeana is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the community, ensuring that everything runs smoothly, and residents have a high-quality living experience.

Jeana manages the rental process, handles maintenance requests, and communicates with residents. Her presence on-site allows for a quicker response to issues and concerns in the community. Her addition to the team has brought a new level of professionalism and expertise to The Hideaway, making it an even more desirable place to call home.

THE HIDEAWAY FUTURE

As we begin phase 2 of property development, our mission is to pioneer a regenerative stewardship model that cultivates the land into an abundant sustainable living community with nature, shelter, animals, art, healthy and minimal lifestyles.

Our hope is to create a community that helps support others in creating the lifestyle of their dreams making a positive impact in people’s lives, the land, and for future generations.

We strive to incorporate the fruits of the spirit in our business with integrity and love in everything we do.
